Dark Chocolate Coffee Bean Frappe

March 25, 2015 by kim 223 Comments

IMG_4891 I’m a Frappuccino kind of girl. The weather in southern California makes it easy to want cold drinks twenty four-seven. Thanks to Born Sweet™ Zing™ Zero Calorie Stevia Sweetener, I’m able to recreate some fraps at home. Zing™ is made with only real ingredients — nothing artificial, and zero calories, so you don’t have to feel guilty about consuming it. IMG_4895 A little goes a long way! In fact, 1 packet equals the sweetness in 2 teaspoons of sugar. I only had to use one packet to get my drink to the level of sweetness that I like, and I like my drinks pretty sweet. The powder inside is very fine and white so it dissolves quickly. IMG_4921 These packets are great to carry around with you since they come in individual pieces. Leave some in your purse or your car! I carry them around in my lunch bag for work. You can add them to your oatmeal in the morning, sweeten your coffee, or sprinkle onto some fresh fruit. Pour Zing™ Zero Calorie Stevia Sweetener into your teas, smoothies, and lemonades. IMG_4927 I was surprised at how easy it was to make blended coffee drinks at home. All you need is a good shot of espresso! If you can’t make that at home, you can sub it for a cup of strongly brewed coffee and add some more ice to the blender. I threw in a handful of dark chocolate espresso beans for a little crunch, but you can omit those if you’d like. You can also use dark chocolate chips instead if you have those sitting in your pantry. IMG_4932   I used the banana to add a smoother texture to the drink, but you could still kind of taste it. I’m still brainstorming other ingredients to use that don’t have that strong of a taste. Perhaps plain Greek yogurt? Next time, I’ll try taking the banana out and adding more ice in general so the coffee flavor is the only one there. I’m already thinking of all the other drinks that I’ll be creating in my kitchen. Green tea fraps, chai tea lattes, earl grey teas, and even freshly squeezed juices! Sometimes, even the freshest of juices need a little pick me up. Matcha Green Tea Avocado Smoothie

With summer coming up, I’m all about making and drinking ice cold smoothies. I was thrilled when Tribest sent over a mason jar personal blender for me to use. Talk about perfect timing! Since we’re limited on space in our kitchen, this personal blender wasn’t too big for me to store in my cabinets. It’s small, yet powerful.

matchablender

Not only that, but it’s quite versatile! It comes with lots of jars and lids for you to store your drinks in. You can blend them directly in your cup so there are less dishes to wash.

matchablender-2

I’m still in shock at how all of these pieces fit into that one box.

matchablender-5

I decided to make a matcha green tea avocado smoothie using DoMatcha powder. Have you ever used matcha powder before? My DF was dependent on it when he was studying for his LSATs. It’s great for focusing since it promotes health in mind and body. It also provides sustained energy without the jitters that coffee induces.

You can tell that they take time in packaging their matcha. There’s a foiled, air-tight package inside of a pop top can that has a twist cap. We’re sealing in all of the goodness, people.

Matcha powder is really a thing of beauty. It’s bright green color and fine texture is absolutely mesmerizing.

You can buy it online here. I know, I know.. it’s a little pricey but believe me, it’s worth it! The can may seem small, but you only need about a teaspoon of matcha for each cup of tea you make so a little goes a long way. Plus, there are a lot of health benefits that come with it!

matchablender-9

This little blender whipped my drink up in no time, thanks to its 200 watt motor.

matchablender-10

Just look at how smooth and creamy my drink came out!

The blender may have only one setting, but that’s what I like about it. It’s simple. No point in trying to figure out what speed you need for what, just pop everything in and twist.

If you don’t want to drink it right away, there’s also a cap that you can put onto your jars and store in the fridge for later.

Blackout Smoothie

January 10, 2014 by kim 1 Comment

smoothie

I was never one to get into the logistics of smoothie making. Apparently, the order in which you blend your ingredients makes a difference. Usually, I just throw everything into a blender and pulse until I don’t have any more chunks. Is that not the right way to do it?

smoothie-2

I don’t have a fancy blender or anything, so smoothie making is kind of a hassle for me. There’s a lot of shaking, moving, swirling, and banging going on in my kitchen. Lucky for us, our apartment has cement walls so I don’t wake anyone up while making my morning smoothie.

smoothie-3

My future MIL and abuela found out that we don’t have a very good blender and actually gifted us a compact blender for Christmas. I can’t wait to give it a try!

This smoothie didn’t have a very pretty color, which is why I called it the “blackout smoothie.” Who cares what it looks like as long as it tastes good, right? 🙂
