A Bonne Maman Breakfast

May 1, 2017 by kim Leave a Comment

This is my second “official” Mother’s Day and there’s only one thing that I could wish for… a good breakfast! This one’s a savory one with the help of Bonne Maman‘s Raspberry Preserves. It’s easy enough that dad (or even the kids!) can put together for mom for Mother’s Day.

If you’ve never heard of Bonne Maman, you’re missing out. It’s the only brand that my DH adamantly requests and complains about when we run out. I’ve learned to always keep extra jars on hand so we’re always prepared for the last scoop of preserves. We eat it pretty much every morning on our toast.

Bonne Maman preserves are made from the same time-honored traditional French recipes used to create the brand, their preserves and jellies are made with natural ingredients and feature the finest quality fruit. They are Non-GMO Project Verified, have no high fructose corn syrup, no artificial coloring or no preservatives added.

What does Bonne Maman, even mean, anyway? That’s my favorite part! It actually means “Grandmother” or “Granny,” which is why it’s perfect for all of your Mother’s Day breakfast dishes.

Another thing I love about Bonne Maman is that you don’t have to go out of your way to find the brand. I buy my stash from Target, but they also have it at Ralph’s, Whole Foods, etc. There are no extra grocery stops for me in order to pick a jar.

As for the recipe itself, I’m a sucker for a grilled panini. Any time I’m out of ideas or too tired to cook, I’ll bust out the trusty panini maker and put the ingredients together. The raspberry preserves balance out the brie while the bacon gives it a crunch. It’s all of your breakfast needs in one.

The jars are simple and unique. It looks as though you made the preserves at home from items in your pantry (you probably could, too!). There’s nothing foreign in this jar– just good, wholesome, and natural ingredients.

For more information and ideas on what you could do with these preserves, be sure to check out their website, Instagram, and Pinterest.

Creamy Avocado Salmon Sandwich

It’s avocado season! The best time to eat avocados is alllllllll summer long. I’ve been eating avocados in the morning with poached eggs, for lunch in my sandwiches, and for dinner in my salads. Avocados are even better in the summer, now that I’m a mom. It’s the easiest baby food to bring with me and serve. Just mash it up with a fork and it’s smooth enough for Ellie to eat!

I’ve only tried giving avocados to Ellie once, so I’ll have to try again to see how she really likes it now that she’s tasted a variety of fruits/veggies. She could be like my DH, though, and hate avocados. How is that even possible? I’ll never know. IMG_6383

This is a fast lunch recipe that you can whip up in no time. I love the ready to eat salmon packages that you find in the grocery store. They’re convenient since they don’t have to be refrigerated and can be eaten straight out of the bag.IMG_6389

Think I used enough avocado? Never.

Creamy Avocado Salmon Sandwich

Ingredients

  • 2 slices of wheat bread, toasted
  • 1/2 medium California hass avocado
  • 5 oz can Chicken of the Sea pink salmon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • freshly ground pepper
  • pinch of garlic salt
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, mash all of the ingredients together (except for the bread).
  2. Evenly spread the mixture in between the toasted bread. There's definitely enough to make two sandwiches, but I like a hearty meal so I ate it all in one.

MorningStar Farms Buffalo Chik’n Patty
 Burger

July 28, 2014 by kim 84 Comments

With my DF’s picky palate, my cooking is pretty limited. I stick to the same meats with the same ol’ seasonings. We eat quite a bit of meat in my household, so I decided to change it up a bit with MorningStar Farms. They are always introducing new flavors and products, including Spicy Black Bean Burger, Mediterranean Chickpea Burger, Roasted Garlic & Quinoa Burger, Buffalo Chik Patty, and Original Veggie Sausage.

I started off with the Buffalo Chik Patty because I wanted my DF to eat the food without me having to convince him first. He’s very… stubborn when it comes to trying new foods. The best way to disguise it was to use it in a burger since it looks exactly like a chicken patty. Little did my DF know that his “burger” was actually meat free, vegan, and gluten free!

He took a bite and I questioned him what he thought. Since I was staring at him the entire time he was chewing to see if he noticed anything strange, he finally asked me what was in the burger. I told him that there was, in fact, no meat in the burger that he just swallowed. He was so surprised! The meat-only eater liked eating a meatless burger. Imagine that.

These Buffalo Chik Patties would be great in place of chicken parmesan. You could also cut them into strips and use them to top a salad or on a bowl of pasta. Actually, I would love using these in a spring roll and dipping them in a buffalo-mayonnaise sauce. I’m coming up with plenty of ideas just sitting here typing! Imagine all of the other possibilities that you could come up with.

I could slowly replace the meat in our meals and my DF wouldn’t even notice! That’s how close they are to the real thing. Since they’re so tasty, MorningStar Farms makes it easy to eat smart. Plus, all twelve MorningStar Farms veggie burgers have a great source of protein, just like meat.
