Food Review: Curry House

February 25, 2011 by kim 2 Comments

My DB is obsessed with Japanese curry. When I say obsessed, I mean he’ll eat it every day of his life if it was an option. Although I do admit that it’s good, I’m just not that crazy about it. But since I love my DB oh-so-much, I let him indulge on his favorite whenever he can.
I used to live five minutes away from Curry House when I was living in Westwood, but now that I’ve moved back home, it’s more of a drive. That doesn’t stop us from going, though (It’s the DB’s favorite place for curry)! We went with a couple of friends this time, meaning more dishes to take pictures of! 🙂

DB on the left: Chicken curry super hot

Can you believe that I never tried this until I met my DB? And I’m the one that’s Asian! Funny how that works out.
The curry here is delicious. No doubt about it. You can even get it super spicy, which is a must! I’m hungry just looking at the pictures.. but that’s probably cause it’s past two in the morning and I should be sleeping. Good night!

Remember back when I was majorly stressing over work and the grand re-opening of the museum? Well, at least my work was nice enough to give us all cupcakes to celebrate the weekend. These were baked by the local Four Seasons hotel in honor of what would have been Ronald Reagan’s 100th birthday.
It was a plain chocolate cupcake with vanilla whipped frosting. Jelly Bellys (Reagan’s favorite) were sprinkled on the top of the cupcake and a white chocolate disc imprinted with the centennial logo finished it off. It sure looked pretty!
The packaging was just darling. You could tell that a lot of work went into each individual cupcake. But as for the cupcake itself? Dry, a bit bland, and unimpressive. C’mon now Four Seasons… if you charge that much for a night at the hotel, couldn’t you at least make a decent cupcake?! The frosting was good, though.
PS. Sorry this post is so delayed. I really should have posted it last week. Better late than never!
PPS. I’ve done a blog makeover! Thoughts?
PPPS. I was featured as day 13 of BlogHer’s 14 days of chocolate. Woooo! Chocolate overload.

Food Review: Pirate’s Dinner Adventure

January 28, 2011 by kim 4 Comments

Have you guys been heard of Medieval Times? Well, this is pretty much the same thing… but with pirates. We went for my little sister’s birthday to watch pirates duke it out over dinner. Although this was definitely more for little kids than adults, I still had fun. Everyone is on a certain pirate’s team and sat around the center stage:

Then, the people come around with carts (think airplane style) and give you your food. It starts off with a salad:

I got the Treasure’s Chicken–Oven Roasted Half Chicken carefully marinated in a savory blend of spices, served with a Steamed Broccoli Floweret and Caribbean Rice.

DB got the Buccaneer BBQ Pork Loin– Tender slices of mouthwatering pork loin, topped with our special BBQ sauce, served with a Steamed Broccoli Floweret and Buttery Mashed Potatoes.

and for dessert: apple cobbler a la mode with a scoop of vanilla ice cream

It’s kind of pricy if you pay the full amount, but we got a coupon and got in for 20 bucks a person. That price tag is wonderful for entertainment AND a 3 course meal. The food was nothing special, but I did particularly enjoy the mashed potatoes. The chicken plate was hugeee and I ended up giving my DB half of it because I couldn’t eat it all.
So if I had to choose one.. Pirates or Medieval times? I choose Medieval times.
