Berkeley is a very dog friendly city. Almost everyone has dogs despite their small apartments. There are dog parks on every block and lots of space to go on walks or run around. The weather is also ideal for being outside. The sun’s out all the time and there’s a nice breeze.
Seriously, I’ve seen some of the most beautiful dogs in my life living in Berkeley. The weird thing is that the cutest puppies belong to the homeless. I understand that they are the best owners for dogs because they give them the love and support that a dog needs. They devote their time to being with their dog 24:7, which is something a lot of people can’t do.
But what I don’t get is where do they get the puppies from? They have purebreds, puppies that are eight weeks old, and breeds that people pay thousands for. Those puppies are everywhere by UC Berkeley and I always wonder the same thing. How do the homeless get them?
Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy the puppies have found loving owners, but man do I want their dogs! What’s the secret? How do I get an adorable puppy like theirs?
Not that I can even get a puppy right now. My DB’s busy with school and I’m in the air a hundred hours a month, so we’re not exactly the ideal parents for a newborn pup.
My DB and I have decided that when the time comes, we’ll be getting two dogs at once. They’ll also be german shepherds. I get a fuzzy feeling just talking about my non existent dogs. Does that make me the crazy dog lady? Nah… There’s no such thing as crazy dog ladies. Dogs are too darn lovable.
Brownies are typically made with chocolate, but what about the people that don’t like chocolate? And yes, there are people in the world that aren’t very fond of chocolate. Do they just live without eating brownies? What a terrible life that must be!
Good thing white chocolate brownies exist. They solve that terrible problem.
These still have the same shiny top as regular brownies. The middle is moist and the white chocolate really comes through since it’s melted into the batter and folded into it. Recipe from Cookies And Cups.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups white chocolate chips, divided
- 5 Tbsp butter
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350Β°. Grease a 9x9 pan and set aside.
- In a saucepan over low heat, melt together the butter and 3/4 cup white chocolate chips. Continuously stir to keep it from burning.
- When the white chocolate is just melted, remove from heat and stir together with a fork until mixed.
- In another bowl, stir together the sugar, eggs and vanilla until smooth. Pour in the white chocolate mixture and mix until combined.
- Gradually add the flour, baking powder and salt. Finally stir in the remaining 3/4 cup white chocolate chips.
- Spread evenly into prepared pan and bake for 20-25 minutes until set. Cool completely before cutting.

I agree that there is no such thing as a crazy dog lady! Dogs are the absolute best! And I am not sure, but I would assume they adopt unwanted dogs. you can adopt any breed and age that you want! Adopting is near and dear to my heart. i adopted both of my pups and we foster a third dog for a local rescue group. we love it!
The brownies look great by the way! Thank you for sharing π

Haha. I totally understand. every single time i see a newborn puppy, i just want to grab it and claim it mine! (I haven’t done such crazy things…yet). and these “brownies” look ah-mazing!!! especially for me – i’m much more of a vanilla or white chocolate fan than chocolate. weird, i know!
Joy says
if/when you get a couple of puppies, show us some pictures, pretty please? π
These “brownies” look good………..I actually don’t really care for chocolate in solid form (bars, chocolate chips, etc.), but I love me some brownies and chocolate cake! π Thanks for sharing the recipe, I may just have to make these bars sometime! π
(sorry for all the smiley faces, it sorta just slips out….)

I’M really not a dog person an what I especially can’t tolerate is people who don’t keep their dogs on leashes, even though its the law. Just because you love your dog doesn’t mean everyone else does and I’m sick of dog owners imposing their dogs on me. Of course they’re the first to tell you “don’t worry, Rover wouldn’t hurt a soul”. Yeah well maybe Rover wouldn’t hurt anyone in your family but who are you to put a complete stranger at risk of being bitten?! There are more idiots out there who own dogs than their are responsible pet owners. oh and I especially love these types who think the “no dogs allowed” signs are posted for everyone BUT them and their dog! Like wtf is that. If it says no dogs and you have a dog, then it means YOU!!! Get a clue already.

Would it be ok if I replaced the all purpose flour with self-rising and took out the baking powder?

Baking is a food cooking method using prolonged dry heat acting by convection, rather than by thermal radiation, normally in an oven, but also in hot ashes, or on hot stones.[1] The most common baked item is bread but many other types of foods are baked. Heat is gradually transferred “from the surface of cakes, cookies and breads to their centre. As heat travels through it transforms batters and doughs into baked goods with a firm dry crust and a softer centre”.’

Thereβs just something special about homemade cookies, especially chocolate chip cookies, so far as Iβm concerned. Itβs a great family activity, something even children can help with, and everyone loves eating the results..

I was craving for something sweet today and looking for a simple recipe to use up about a cup of which chocolate chips i had left in the pantry. This was a great recipe, in that it was simple, and I didn’t have use a mixer! Yay! The only thing is that it was SUPER SWEET! Even my 13 year old (a dessert connoisseur) said she couldn’t eat it without drinking milk or water, and that was even AFTER I had added about 1/4 cup of chopped pecans to the batter! Will make again, because I LOVE that crust on the top of the brownies. Next time, however, I will either forego the unmelted chips inside the batter and/or increase the nuts to cut the overall sweetness. Your pics are great! π

In my post above, I meant to say “white” chocolate chips…not “which” chocolate chips. LOL

I made these….twice! I messed up the first batch because I doubled the recipe. BIG MISTAKE!
The second time I went by the recipe measurements except I cut the sugar to 3/4 of a cup. The first batch was extremely sweet. Also, I added sliced almonds into the batter and then sprinkled more on top and it game them a great taste and crunch. I have to say that the second batch was a 10!
