Testing out something new, food reviews!: Bottega Louie

October 26, 2010 by kim 9 Comments

So, some of you may or may not know about my other food review blog, The Darling Foodie, but I’ve decided once again to merge that blog back with this one. Why? Primarily because I can’t stand WordPress. Maybe because I don’t know how to use it, maybe because it won’t let me run ads on it, or maybe because it always crashes on me when I’m uploading pictures. Either way, I’m a blogger user and I’m gonna stick to it.

When I say “merge,” I mean post my food reviews on this blog from now on. I looked into importing my blog from WordPress to Blogger, but my goodness, that’s just something way out of my league. I do not have the patience or skill to do it.
The plus side is that there will be more posts and more food here! Thoughts?

Now to the point. Botegga Louie!

Now, I actually didn’t get to go here. My DB found this place all on his own and went while he was doing some training in the area and took these photos for me. He even created a video so that I could see the entire place (see below)! Bless his little heart.

My DB and his friend also ate lunch while they were there. They ordered some portobello mushroom fries:

And some pizza…

Not only that, he brought a couple goodies home for me!

Starting with a chocolate eclair…

and some macarons!

hazelnut, vanilla bean, some kind of berry, and banana chocolate:

Chocolate cupcake with a coffee frosting:

It didn’t travel that great, but it sure did taste great!

And here’s the video he shot for me:

Everything that I tried was above par. Although I couldn’t be at the actual store to get the whole experience, my DB made sure I got a good piece of it. This was also the first time I tried a macaron, believe it or not, and I can’t believe what I’ve been missing all my life! I need to get on that, pronto.
All of the desserts are packaged so beautifully, too. The box, the cupcake wrapping, the edible gold foil on top of the eclair… just gorgeous. I need to go for myself– I keep hearing the portobello mushroom fries and pizza are to die for.

bee’s knees & a giveaway.

July 27, 2009 by kim 83 Comments

I was roaming around Albertson’s the other day, in search of something cheap to buy so that I could get cash back when using my debit card. Immediately, I went to the bakery section. After passing by various cakes, bite-sized brownies, and lofthouse cookies, my eyes stumbled across this pretty little thing. There were actually four different designs.. a butterfly, a bee, a flower, and something else that I can’t quite remember.

So why did I choose the bee? It was the cutest one! And plus, we need to save the honey bees! Did you know that honey bees alone are responsible for 1/3 of the crops that we eat? If honey bees were to become extinct, the human population could only survive for 4 years before becoming extinct as well (according to Albert Einstein). The weird thing is, no one really knows why they are dying out. We know that hives are experiencing Colony Collapse Disorder, where bees desert their hives for no apparent reason and die. Haagen-Daz has been really active on saving the honey bees and you can even find more information at their website, HERE.

To be honest the cookie wasn’t very good. It was a lemon sugar cookie with royal icing, but I was never really a fan of lemon baked goods. At such a steal for $1.99, it doesn’t hurt to buy the cookie just to look at. 🙂

I’m almost at 200 followers and just wanted to celebrate with a giveaway! I’m giving away a pastry dough scraper from Crate & Barrel. The rubber grasp makes it easy to grip and work with, while the ruler on the stainless steel comes in handy when trying to measure out the dough (one side is in inches and the other side is in centimeters.. perfect!).

For a chance to win, just leave a comment with your favorite sugar cookie shape by next Monday, August 3rd, 11:59 PM Pacific Time. Good luck!

A win for the Lakers!

June 5, 2009 by kim 1 Comment

My last day of undergrad classes are officially over! Hooray! I celebrated with the bf by going to Crumb’s Bake Shop after school, and what did I see? A Lakers cupcake! How fitting for tonight’s game. Luckily we also got the W… Maybe I should buy a Lakers cupcake for every game as a good luck charm since it seemed to work tonight. 🙂

Excuse the poor lighting, I didn’t have time til after the game to take a picture because I didn’t have my camera with me. I even made the bf wait the entire day to eat it, since I wouldn’t let him take a bite out of it without a decent picture first. Ohhh wellll. This one was a plain vanilla cake with buttercream frosting and it was PERFECT! So moist and flavorful, just another reminder of why I love Crumbs so much. And just for kicks, me and the bf driving the cupcake back from Crumbs…
