Food Review: Buenos Aires Grill

November 3, 2010 by kim 5 Comments

I’m grateful for my DB for a lot of things… for his sense of humor, his hard work, his honesty and commitment, but I’d have to say one of the most important things is for introducing me to a heavenly parsley sauce called chimichurri. Dear Lord, that stuff is amazing. Now, whenever I go to an Argentine restaurant, I make sure to ask for chimichurri every ten minutes. True story.

Buenos Aires Grill is one of my favorite spots to go because of the laid back environment and authentic Argentine food. The french bread that they give you is always served warm and toasty. And the chimichurri? To die for.

Come to think of it, chimichurri is kind of a funny word. My DB and his cousins always make fun of me for saying it. Apparently, I don’t say it right.. the way Argentines say it. Chim-ee-churr-ee. I’ll work on it.

Mine: Vegetariano Sandwich ($5.99) -Grilled marinated egg plant, roasted red peppers, fresh avocado, mixed spring lettuce, tomato, onions, provolone & mayonnaise. (Except I got it with no mayo)

DB’s: Chicken Milanesa Sandwich ($5.99) – Thinly Breaded Chicken Breast Sandwich with lettuce, tomato & mayonnaise.

My favorite dinner item would have to be the Alfredo Pasta with Salmon. They only have two locations (one in Northridge and the other in Woodland Hills), but don’t let that stop you from making a trip there!

Testing out something new, food reviews!: Bottega Louie

October 26, 2010 by kim 9 Comments

So, some of you may or may not know about my other food review blog, The Darling Foodie, but I’ve decided once again to merge that blog back with this one. Why? Primarily because I can’t stand WordPress. Maybe because I don’t know how to use it, maybe because it won’t let me run ads on it, or maybe because it always crashes on me when I’m uploading pictures. Either way, I’m a blogger user and I’m gonna stick to it.

When I say “merge,” I mean post my food reviews on this blog from now on. I looked into importing my blog from WordPress to Blogger, but my goodness, that’s just something way out of my league. I do not have the patience or skill to do it.
The plus side is that there will be more posts and more food here! Thoughts?

Now to the point. Botegga Louie!

Now, I actually didn’t get to go here. My DB found this place all on his own and went while he was doing some training in the area and took these photos for me. He even created a video so that I could see the entire place (see below)! Bless his little heart.

My DB and his friend also ate lunch while they were there. They ordered some portobello mushroom fries:

And some pizza…

Not only that, he brought a couple goodies home for me!

Starting with a chocolate eclair…

and some macarons!

hazelnut, vanilla bean, some kind of berry, and banana chocolate:

Chocolate cupcake with a coffee frosting:

It didn’t travel that great, but it sure did taste great!

And here’s the video he shot for me:

Everything that I tried was above par. Although I couldn’t be at the actual store to get the whole experience, my DB made sure I got a good piece of it. This was also the first time I tried a macaron, believe it or not, and I can’t believe what I’ve been missing all my life! I need to get on that, pronto.
All of the desserts are packaged so beautifully, too. The box, the cupcake wrapping, the edible gold foil on top of the eclair… just gorgeous. I need to go for myself– I keep hearing the portobello mushroom fries and pizza are to die for.

I’m the kind of gal that while browsing tastespotting or foodgawker, I always initially click on the photos with star shaped sprinkles, light pastel colors, and cakes shaped into cute characters. The pretty desserts are what catches my eye.

After making this, I realized that the pretty things aren’t always the tastiest. These knockoff s’mores are certainly not the easiest on the eyes, but it’s darn good for the stomach. I was craving s’mores at home but didn’t have any graham crackers or hershey bars, so I had to elaborate with what I had on hand. Sometimes throwing everything you have into a pot does wonders (not to mention it only took three minutes)! And okay… I always swear I don’t do knockoffs when it comes to purses/designers, but I’ll let it slide for dessert. 🙂
I never measure my ingredients when making rice crispy treats, so why do anything different with these? I didn’t. Feel free to play with the marshmallow/cereal/chocolate ratio until you get what you like. In fact, I’ll give a guideline for you to play with!
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 cup miniature marshmallows
  • 2 cups golden graham cereal
  • a handful of miniature chocolate chips
  1. Melt the butter and marshmallows in a pot over the stove over low/medium heat.
  2. When the butter and marshmallows are completely melted, turn off the stove and remove from heat.
  3. Stir in the golden grahams until well covered. (Make sure to mix AWAY from the heat, as the golden grahams will loose their crunch when it’s too hot)
  4. Dump the mixture onto a piece of wax paper or tin foil and sprinkle the chocolate chips on top. Enjoy straight from the wrapper!
This totally reminds me of college food. ::sigh::, how I miss those days!
