Wednesday Wanderings

January 29, 2014 by kim 2 Comments

Welcome to a new series that I’ll be starting called “Wednesday Wanderings!” It’ll include random things that are going on in my life/wedding planning/weekly eats, all the good stuff that doesn’t involve a recipe.

My DF and I have a Bay Area bucket list that we made since we won’t be up here much longer. We’ve been living in the bay for almost three years now and we haven’t done Alcatraz, the Golden Gate Bridge, a Niners game… Basically, we’re bad tourists.

I had a Saturday off (which is rare with my junior seniority at work), so we decided to make the best of it. We visited Golden Gate, went to the Walt Disney Family Museum, and had lunch in Sausalito. Oh, did I mention cronuts?

It’s taken us quite a while to finally try our first cronut, and this one did not disappoint! My goodness, they were fresh, warm, and melted in our mouths. We did a little research for the best cronut and it led us to Fillmore’s Bakeshop in San Francisco. The only thing is that they’re called “D’s Nutz,” not cronuts there. We came about ten minutes prior to them serving D’s Nutz on Saturday morning because we heard the line can get a little crazy and they run out quickly. We ordered one of each– their specialty on Saturday mornings (it just so happened to be vanilla glaze with rainbow sprinkles) and the plain cinnamon sugar.

Just look at those perfectly flaky layers. I need it again. Pronto.

After that, we had some time to kill before the Walt Disney Family Museum opened, so we headed on over to the Chrissy Field Overlook to see the Golden Gate bridge.

It was an unbelievably beautiful day out.

As for the museum, it was entertaining to us Disney fanatics. I definitely wouldn’t recommend this place for kids, though. There was so much about Walt’s life and tidbits about the movies that we learned.

We decided to cross over the Golden Gate bridge over to Sausalito for some lunch.

We ate at Le Garage after waiting for 40-50 minutes for a table for two. It was worth it, though. To have a view of the marina and good food? I can’t complain.

I ordered the Croque Madame.

My DF got the 7 hour house-made ham sandwich with roasted chanterelles, chestnut butter, St. Nectaire cheese and mizuna served with fries and aïoli.

Talk about a great day!

Hey! I was just wondering what kind of bag you have. I love it.

    Thanks!
