Chocolate Cake Mix Cookies

June 26, 2009 by kim 21 Comments

Things are finally beginning to wind down. Hooray for that! I have more free time to myself and time to just relax, although job hunting isn’t very fun. Anyone know of a job available in Southern California? Being a recent graduate really sucks with this economy. :/

Who doesn’t love an easy dessert that tastes amazing? I’m not gonna lie, I love cake mixes and any dessert using them is okay by me. These were of a brownie texture, thick and chewy. It made about 2 dozen cookies. As always, you can throw in whatever you want in them.. in my case, it was nuts and chocolate chips. The perfect combination! If you’re in a rush and want to whip something semi-homemade, give these babies a try. They won’t disappoint! You can also try using different flavors of cake mix for the cookies, if you’d like. Funfetti’s my personal favorite.

  • 1 package devil’s food cake mix
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup oil
  • handful of chopped walnuts
  • handful of chocolate chips

1.) Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2.) Mix cake mix, eggs, and oil together until just blended. Stir in the nuts and chocolate chips.
3.) Roll the mixture into rounded tablespoons and place on ungreased cookie sheet.
4.) Bake for 8-10 minutes.
5.) Let cool on sheet after taking them out for 10 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack. Enjoy!

I love making these cookies for potlucks and parties. However, I’ve used the one that calls for melted butter and water. They taste just like brownies! Thanks for posting this one, I will try your recipe instead today since I’m out of butter!

This reminds me of these so-called sugar cookies they sell at target and sometimes at grocery stores that have a really fluffy/cake-y texture. You NEED to find the recipe to that and share it with the world. so so good hah.

These look delicious! Just one question though, do you follow the directions on the cake mix box, and add the other ingredients on your list, or do we just pour the cake mix and follow your recipe?

I know this is older but I found it. Know what I did? I followed your recipe and instructions, but made them BIG. 12 muffin top looking cookies and still only cooked them for 10 minutes. And OMG they taste like brownies and are almost molten in the middle when warm. They cool to be moist brownies. That kicks cakes butt! And 1 less egg than box instructions, less is more with this one!

My mom gave me a similar recipe:

    1 box cake mix
    1 box complementary pudding mix
    2 eggs
    1 stick melted butter

Mix together, roll into balls, roll balls in white sugar, bake at 350 degrees for 8 – 10 minutes. I do these in chocolate or lemon. I add lemonade Kool-Aid to the rolling sugar sometimes, too, to give it an extra lemony kick. So easy!

love your blog- first time commenting! i’m in texas and graduated in AUGUST and am still job hunting (didn’t start looking thattt hard until like october cuz i took the lsat but still) i totally agree that being a recent graduate really sucks with this economy!

anyway i tried to swear off cake mix’s because of all the preservatives, extra calories, and apparent foodie disdain but i’ve been lured back in by their convenience and must give this recipe a try. i was wondering is the batter not too runny to form cookies? what’s the consistency like?

Love these cookies!!!! I added a tsp. of vanilla and 1 C. my favorite candy bar(chopped). Also, I had a industrial size bag of cake mix so I didn’t know how much is 1 box of cake mix so for anyone else in this situation its 2 1/2 C. cake mix. The recipe is easily double or tripled 🙂

These came out so yummy! I was a little worried when the dough was so thick. the cake mix had a lot of lumps so next time i might just sift it first so that it mixes easier. i spent some time trying to break up the powder when mixing. i think i just found my go to easy cookie recipe! Thanks for sharing!!
