About Me

Thanks for visiting my blog, Lovin’ From the Oven! My name is Kim, and I’m your typical 26 year old… except for the fact that I act like an 80 year old woman. You see, I love to bake, scrapbook, craft, knit, and read. If it were up to me, I’d stay home all day with the oven on, giving out desserts by night. That’d be my superhero life.
But since that’s a bit unrealistic, I’ll tell you the real deal. This is me:
I love to eat. My favorite food would be a good caesar salad and my favorite dessert would definitely be a churro dipped in tons of cinnamon sugar. I think about food more than the average person. I’m the weird girl at a restaurant that takes pictures of all the food before consuming it. No, it’s not because I’m Asian (although it definitely seems like it to spectators), it’s because I’m a food blogger (or at least that’s my excuse). I love kids and old people. They both hold the key to my heart because they can put a smile on my face in a nano second, no matter what the situation. I also adore traveling. There is so much to see and explore in the world, and I hope to someday visit it all.

I grew up in Southern California, in the outskirts of Los Angeles. I did my undergrad at UCLA, where I met my dear boyfriend (DB) fiance (DF). We have been dating for over six years and moved in together to Berkeley, where he just finished law school. We’ve moved back to LA since, and it feels great to be back home near family. We just got engaged in August 2013 (!!) and you can read all about the proposal here.

I majored in Political Science with the intention of becoming a lawyer, but at the end of my junior year, I realized how that path just wasn’t for me (hey, at least one of us stuck to it!). Right now, I currently work as a flight attendant full time.

I can’t cook for the life of me, but that doesn’t stop me from trying! You’ll see random savory foods on my blog every now and then, but I tend to stick to what I know best: sweets. I dream of owning my own bakery one day. Until then, I’ll be using this blog as an outlet for my kitchen adventures.

So hi, I’m Kim… and that’s me in a nutshell. I would love to know a little bit about my readers, if you feel so inclined to let me know about you in the comment area! Thanks for dropping by!

I love getting mail! It might take me a while to respond, but I promise that I read everything!

  • Ali

    hey kim!

I’m just like you in the sense that i would love to be a great cook but i did not inherit that trait. My brother always jokes with me that “the smoke alarm isn’t supposed to be your timer.” For that reason, i stick to easy recipes that do not take a lot of time to make seeing as i get a little distracted while the food is cooking. I am a college student and am always looking for somewhat healthy recipes that use ingredients that i have laying around. absolutely LOVE your blog and recipes and cannot wait to see more recipes pop up here over time. my pinterest is now full of recipes from your blog. thanks for being awesome! =]

  • Marcia spivey

Hi, kim… my name is Marcia. I had to chuckle when you said you acted like an 80 yr old woman who loved to cook, etc. I hate to break this to you, but by 80 we’re pretty much burned out on cooking, at least most of the women here in my retirement “compound” are. I call this village a “compound” because we are a gated community and I tell everyone they lock us in at night. to get back to baking…my 46 yr old son just recently moved in with me. He is a master in the art of cheesecakes, and got me interested in kitchen cookery, again. this led me to your blog and the desire to try some of your recipes. I must say you are a delightful young lady, and I hope your are always this enthused about your many household crafts. keep blogging, and a big hug for you!!

  • Avanti

It’s interesting that I found your blog. I just finished the end of my junior year of undergrad and realized that I don’t want to go down that career path. I’m now looking for flight attendant jobs as well. I also love to craft & bake and will be following your blog on Feedly!

  • Bonnie Jane

Hi kim…. i’m a baker too and owned my own bake shop in a small town in The ottawa valley, ontario, canada for about 15 years… loved every minute of it but i got pooped out and had to sell. it was called bonnie jane’s scones and we did everything from scratch, scones, muffins, coffee cakes, cookies, date squares, etc etc. lots of fun. i still love to bake and do it every chance i get. love your blog. keep doing it!

  • Wendi Csorba

well, to start things off, i wasn’t sure where i was suppose to post my comment about my favorite holiday baking tradition. i didn’t grow up in a house with holiday baking/cooking traditions. i also grew up in a house with a mom that couldn’t cook or bake well. she tried, but failed. when i got older, i started my own traditions. i started cooking and baking every recipe i could find that sounded good to me. what actually turned out as edible, i saved that recipe. after years in the kitchen and many failed attempts, i finally was able to get the hang of things. so, my cooking and baking education was self-taught.
then i got married. my husband came from a house where his dad was a chef. so, needless to say, he knew a thing or two about cooking. but bless his heart, he can’t bake to save his life. he tries though. but, it’s the bonding experience in our kitchen that keeps us strong.
so, back to traditions. since my husband is a lover of turkey, one day he asked, “why is turkey only a once a year thing? i love turkey! I want turkey more often”. So, him and I decided to start birthday turkey! instead of having turkey on thanksgiving, we now do turkey for whenever it’s someone’s birthday.
my second favorite holiday baking tradition is christmas. about two years ago i made a batch of pfeffernüsse cookies, and my husband feel in love with those things! so, now every christmas season, guess what he requests? haha
i started my recipe book a few years ago because I have two daughters who need to know how to be able to cook and bake. like i said, i had no clue what i was doing and i don’t want my children to not know how to take care of themselves. cooking and baking, along with knitting, sewing, doing laundry, etc. seems to be a dying skill. i don’t want these skills being lost or forgotten.
well, i guess that’s all i have for now. haha thank you for the opportunity to tell you a little about myself and be able to enter into your giveaway drawing.

    happy holidays!

  • Nila @ the tough cookie
